Typical advice for this is talk about FORD:

    • Family
    • Occupation
    • Relationships
    • Dreams

    and avoid RAPE:

    • Religon
    • Abortion
    • Politics
    • Economics

FORD is talking about the people they love, where they spend most of their time, and what they’re excited about. RAPE is a list of topics that are frequently contentious and that people are bad at having productive conversations about (also don’t talk about rape)

The version I heard was Recreation rather than Relationships. Find out what they do for fun, whether it’s gardening, concerts, or disc golf.

I’m sure there’s multiple versions, that’d be good too. It’s mostly just getting people to talk about things they like in their life

Something geared towards finding out what they do in their free time. Generally a quick way to find stuff in common

  • Probably some exchange of childhood stories. Idk I don’t got much going on recently (not that I would like to share anyways, like telling people I often binge watch TV shows at home is kinda cringe tbh), and I feel like its easier to bond over relatable history like what are some of your happiest moments in childhood (or even bittersweet/sad ones depending on how close we get, like to form a bond over shared trauma… you know).

Speaking of memories, one just randonly popped up, I sort of remember going like out of state to a Six Flags thing when I was living in NYC. Like my relatives all went there. Entire drive was like idk 2,3,4 hours? No idea, didn’t keep track of time. I kinda threw up on the way, like a fucking lot. So many people. First thing I get there was get food lol (cuz I threw up everything remember, so I was hungry lol).

Meh, rollar coasters were kinda scary, idk how me as a young-adult right now could even do what kid-me did. Like the fear of heights thing would kill me. I mostly played around the water areas.

It was quite memorable, but somehow the memory kinda just stayed dormant for most of the time till now.
