Hello, I’m 21 years old and have been eager to try DMT for the past couple months. My first trip is in two weeks. Although, I’ve mainly just watched podcasts and YouTube videos about it, I feel like I should learn more before I take off.

Any recommendations?

    I have extracted quite some DMT myself and have experience.

    • Get somebody with some experience to make sure you’re alright. It’s not required as the trip is extremely short and wouldn’t really put you in dangerous situations, but it could help you relax, and you’ll have somebody that can manage any external stuff that could be happening.
    • If you are using any sort of pipe that gets hot and can burn you, get a person to take the pipe from you or be sure to have some place to easily put it down when the concept of reality starts to fade. The first few times you might not understand what’s happening and you could burn yourself by holding or dropping the pipe.
    • Don’t look for a special spot to smoke. Just make sure you are in a comfortable position in someplace you’ll not be disturbed. Looking for a beautiful spot in nature or some place with external visuals is useless.
    • Don’t worry about a low dose to start, or not hitting it correctly and only feeling a little. Getting a taste first is still pretty nice. After some experience you can try and hit it 3 times, which me and my friends consider the sweet spot.
    • Tolerance kicks in extremely fast with DMT. We’re talking tens of seconds up to a minute. Smoke as much as possible as fast as possible. After your trip - even when it’s and extremely soft one - smoking for a few hours will be useless.
    • Try to learn something and enjoy.

    I’m sure this has already come up in the research you’ve already done, but I’d really like to make sure the concept of set and setting is emphasized. If you don’t already know, set means your mental state. Try to make sure you are in a good mental state. You don’t have to be perfect or anything, but if you’re having a bad day or just not feeling all there then it’s best to wait for a day that you’re feeling better. By setting, I mean the physical location that you will be taking the substance, if you don’t feel safe by either the location or the people then don’t do it.

    If you ignore these then you’re greatly increasing the chances that you’ll have a difficult trip, considering some people experience trips that to them feel like years or even a lifetime, it’s best to do all you can to reduce the amount of things that could cause you to not have a positive experience.

    Also, I would work on learning to let go. I found it to be a far more complex and layered concept and skill than it had originally appeared to be and something that I’m still working on, myself.

    Edit: Don’t forget, always test your drugs.

    At 48 it’s funny how the comfort of normality has become a thing.

    However, as someone who tried and enjoyed Acid, E, cocaine, speed, weed, valium, mushrooms, ketomine and alcohol in his 20s I admit I’m pretty curious about DMT.

    I’ve just read the Irvine Welsh book Dead Man’s Trousers and it’s definitely piqued my interest in psychodelics, but I just don’t feel there’s room for that in my life at the moment.

    Keen to hear how it goes. When I took Acid I had the best time, but I always knew that I was on it and could therefore explain to my consciousness that it was a trip.

    I understand the DMT experience is more profound and can genuinely reveal things to people about themselves, which lasts post-trip as people process the insights it reveals.

    You don’t need to do much preparing and it’s a short experience. Don’t do psychedelics when you’re stressed out if that’s something you deal with… Wait for a lull in monthly life, IMO. Not that DMT can go sideways as easily as Mushrooms can for example.

    Have a tripper sitter with you so you don’t choke on your own tongue.

    Vape is much better than trying to smoke. It’s hard to heat it just right without wasting it or not taking a big enough dose. You take what you can where you live of course.

    Put on a relaxing song you like. It won’t do anything for you if you’re feeling nervous, but man. It’s a lesser experience without auditory hallucinations involving one of your favorite songs in the background as you fade into the black void. Or uh sorry, machine elves and fractal patterns? Wouldn’t know since I have Aphantasia :(

    Being nervous / anxious before I hit it didn’t harm the experience for me. Was just good anyways. Come down was pretty emotional.

    This one isn’t complicated.

      Any suggestions on how to vape it? I usually put it on a bowl of cannabis to smoke it. I would love to find a different way. It’s my preferred hallucinogenic and I love the shorter trip, but my only complaint is it tastes like ass. Does vaping help with that or do I just have to deal with ass mouth? lol

        The taste will always be… special. Using a high-end vaporizer, you can set a very exact temperature to ensure the molecule is vaporized, not incinerated. Using direct heat like a lighter is less precise, more prone to burnt product – which negatively influences taste.

    You’re talking about vaporizing the crystal and inhaling it or injecting it, yes? Not a chaga or ayahuasca sort of preparation? I’ll assume you’ll be doing just DMT with no MAOI for the rest of this post.

    Also, disclaimer: I’ve never done any psychedelics. Just studied quite a bit.

    This is basically cliche at this point, but, set and setting.

    Mindset. Meditate. Learn to let go. Learn not to try to control. That will come in handy during your trip. The less you fight it, the more positive it will be.

    Setting. Make sure your plans are well set up ahead of time so you don’t end up worrying about things down here on the material plane while you’re tripping. Have a trip sitter. Trip somewhere beautiful and comfortable. Have a trip sitter.

    Aside from that, learn how to actually get the drug into you properly. You don’t want to burn it, just vaporize it, and that requires doing it right with the right kind of device. Your trip sitter can help, especially if they’re experienced.

      You know your stuff for someone who hasn’t partaken.

      I’ve done ayahuasca but not regular old DMT. Those are the main points I would have suggested.

      Adding to that, allow plenty of time to process the experience after the trip has ended. I journaled it, which helped make sense of it all, especially parts that felt disconnected from normal perceptions.

      Music you vibe with will help too. Some of the music that accompanied my experience was a bit overwhelming and magnified parts that I didn’t enjoy. I had to take myself outside to ground again (if you can call communing with the stars grounding).

    Smoking it? Nothing. It’ll be over so fast, even though it might feel like a long time while you’re high. Just let it ride and don’t resist. It won’t last forever and you will go back to normal. Enjoy!

      So people like you can make others scared of it and make them feel bad for being interested and enjoying it?

          I actually did some years as a drug educator. I provided information on all the known substances (as well as some research chemicals). I am educated in the things that can go wrong and what drugs do in your body, as well as how they react together. I have personal experience with all kinds of drugs, and have helped many people who had questions and even people who have taken too much. The group I worked for is funded by the government, and have booths on all the festivals in my country. On the bigger ones we even have private chill areas for when somebody needs to chill out, and if there are emergency services on the premises we are always in direct contact with them. I am literally the person who informs others.

          So let me tell you; drugs are not bad. Almost every problem a drug user has is because of a lack of proper education and a hostile law system that punishes people for simply enjoying themselves. People who believe drugs are the problem are part to blame for the negative spiral drug users end up in. They look down upon good people and push them away from society.

          Maybe you are the one that should not be naive here.

      it’s found naturally within the human body. the body metabolised it reasonably fast. non toxic and non addictive.
