    Did anyone else’s parents tell them when they were growing up that it you put a coin on the tracks you could derail the train?

      My dad took me to the tracks to flatten dimes. He was an engineer, never taught me bullshit.

      I used to flatten coins that way all the time as a kid. Did it on dates, worked really well. First time I heard that was on a date and I laughed a bit too hard I guess, didn’t work that time.

        I was at a railway museum once when some boy scouts were there for a visit.

        The museum staff were very careful to tell them to never flatten coins on a railroad track (it could derail the train!)

        Yeah, and doing nothing could too (i.e. lack of maintenance).
