Because the left has been holding onto the false hope that things still work like they did up until the 2000s. The left hopes that someday we can return to a place where we disagree with each other but we can work toward a compromise that works for everyone. Then the 2000s hit and both sides began to move away from the center until they’re not able to even communicate with each other in good faith. Now the right wants to perpetrate a genocide and the left is too worried about breaking the rules

I don’t necessarily agree with this point. The right has moved much further from the center, and a decent chunk of the left has let themselves be dragged halfway there in the wake. A lot of American ‘liberals’ are considered right wing in other countries (especially European countries). That’s always been true to a degree. But now it’s becoming more pronounced. But to add extra noise, there’s a portion of the left who are not more firebrand and have pulled further to the left. So the spread of ‘liberals’ goes a long way across the spectrum. Which also explains some of the fragmentation.
I’m actually leaning towards the idea that we were herded here, away from the digital public squares. We’re all now in a very small corner making it easier for private interests to manipulate our spaces with their causes and let’s those interests unfettered access to the public. My main social media spaces are filled with people spreading all kinds of crazy shit and that’s no push back, no fact checking no other side showing what is wrong
“Cancel culture is wrong… except when it helps us.”
“States rights need to be protected… except when they get in our way.”
“The debt ceiling is sacrosanct… except when we’re in power.”
“The separation of church and state… only applies to non-Christian religions.”
“The establishment pedo-ring must be destroyed… except when one of our guys is at the center of it.”
“Political assassinations are intolerable… but not the ones that target our enemies, they are fine.”
The list goes on and on.
This is America.
Exactly my point. God damn there is so much material that can be created. But there’s no channels. Why did the left kneecap itself

I agree with you, I was vague and that came across as a bit of a both sides argument. My bad.
It’s not a spread, it’s a decimation of the left.
