It’s like the trump admin has never heard of the Streisand effect. Hopefully the developer doesn’t get harassed or arrested and the service doesn’t get taken down for a while.

People should be wary about not giving any info that might get tied back to them, just in case it’s a honeypot https://infosec.exchange/@molytov/114780966893879907

I would much prefer to see a service like this being developed and hosted outside of US jurisdiction, for obvious reasons.

The problem with phone apps is that they already have access to personally identifiable information.

I would much prefer this was a mobile friendly website.

It’s not on Android because they couldn’t do it without collecting some info. Seems like mobile-first web site would have been the obvious choice.

Everyone who downloads this app will be shortlisted for the gulags. Big tech is working hand in hand with fascism.

I think it might be simpler.

All the app could do is to report location of the user to ICE.

While people might be interested to show up to ICE raids, immigrants might also want it to know places to say away from.

Since the app is on the phone the location can be tied to the phone number and since they are going after documented immigrants they might have phone numbers from their applications.

I think this should be a mobile website instead of an app is the goal was privacy.

Stealing shamelessly from another comment, Stop Ice is a website version that should be a little more secure due to not being an app on your phone.

Fascists are stupid, but lots of sociopathic opportunists aren’t.

It would be quicker to either:

      1. Type that into your search engine of choice.
      2. Read the article’s second sentence.

For me yes, but having the question answered in the comments acts as a multiplier for subsequent people who will come to this comment thread.

Wouldn’t it be better at that if your top-level comment contained the information directly instead of a question that may or may not go unanswered?
