The American Revolution was kinda funny ngl. It was basically just because like 30% (50% didnt care, 20% were loyalists) of the population didn’t feel like paying taxes to Britain. At all. They weren’t particularly high taxes either. And the only reason that they had to pay taxes was because of the 7 years war that George Washington helped start. Also, they wanted the right to smuggle untaxed French goods to the colonies. Also, they wanted to expand past the borders that were meant to give Native Americans and the French at least a little bit of a break (not much though). Y’all, ngl, the colonies were kinda a little bit in the wrong. For better and worse, we’ll never know what would’ve happened if the silly colonists hadn’t rebelled. Probably end up being a Canada or Australia clone. Definitely closer to Canada. Mexico would probably have a lot more land. Slavery would’ve ended about 30 years earlier (maybe). The French might’ve had a different-ish revolution. A bunch of countries would have different-ish constitutions. The land that the US takes up might have a less diverse group of white people. Idfk, I just took a history class in high school lol
Are you American? Because this is also my rough understanding of the revolution, plus a bit of an idiot stubborn king and over the top children.
In the UK we learn basically nothing about it, mostly focus on Romans, Tudors, vikings and world wars etc. everything I’ve heard about the American revolution is from US shows or pieces from various history podcasts. But I’d never share my understanding generally on the revolution as someone from the UK in mostly US dominated sites.
I’m more inclined to believe that America would just become Europe 2 — without the revolutionary war it’s difficult to believe the Treaty of Paris would have been signed. I think the French, Spanish and British would have held onto their territories for much longer — likely going to war eventually.
