The most important “economic” metrics are completely worthless. GDP is just a measure of how fast we can destroy the planet. Unemployment is just a measure of how completely we can enslave ourselves. The DJIA/etc is just a measure of how how fast inequality is increasing… Etc. Etc. Etc.
There are no metrics for how well our needs are met, how happy our lives are, etc. And if these metrics exist to some extent, they’re actively ignored and obscured by hegemony.
“Econ” is much more broad than you give it credit for.
You’re right that GDP doesn’t measure happiness. But I don’t think we could compare the economies of two countries using the Wold Happiness Report either.
