Reddit’s AI report processing is terrible. I got permed for advocating violence, discussing a completely hypothetical self-defense situation in the passive voice. Literally anyone with a brain cell would have understood it was not advocating violence.

If I’m going out to eat somewhere, it’s mostly because I’m out to socialize or get away from screens. The last thing I want when I sit down at a restaurant is for everyone at the table to get out their phones. I can’t think of a dumber way to undermine restaurant socializing. Just charge me the $0.03 it cost to print the menu.
That’s exactly my belief. Stationary bandit theory is very strong. So the best you can do is a democracy where at least you can kick out bad guys every so often.

A big problem on reddit is debate-oriented communities aggressively stifling debate and banning people for opinions well within the outside-the-internet window of acceptable discourse. So I can see why lemmy.world would not want to go further down that route if it appeared as if it were beginning to happen. Reddit can semi-tolerate it because there enough users to form niche communities if the big ones are terrible. Lemmy has nowhere near enough people.
Unfortunately t can’t all be (1) or (2) because both extremes are terrible.
I know people like this and it makes me roll my eyes for sure. But let’s not pretend that the subways/metros/whatever are fine. I contend with a lot of unpleasant stuff every day and I would say have to move cars a couple times a month because someone is scaring me or there’s an odor too offensive for real life.

Now one thing that wasn’t really addressed, but which should have been, is on-board experience of transit. Qualify of life issues seems silly to a lot of people to spend effort policing, but they matter. Guys on the subway smoking, playing music, smelling awful, etc. Even things as basic as people not taking their backpacks off leading to jostling and crowding. This all matters.
