The video source is from a man speaking hindustani (meaning he’s likely referring to India or Pakistan) with hashtags referencing Islam, both of which are steeped in patriarchal and religious beliefs driving their feelings on this.

When it comes to those living in South Asia, I can tell you that women are generally safer if they are seen by women.

In the “West,” where safety and abuse is less of a concern (in this context), I can say that many women genuinely prefer male gynecologists because they have shown themselves to be more gentle and careful during exams compared to female gynecologists.

In this video, this young man is making a call for more women to become doctors. This alone is a good thing, especially in that culture. But his reasons are rooted in patriarchal and religious thinking.

The answer to your question depends on who you ask, where they’re from, and what they’re influenced by.

If you simply want an opinion from a rando on Lemmy, then here’s mine: a husband’s feelings on which gendered doctor his wife sees is quite irrelevant. A woman should make the decision herself and choose the doctor she feels most comfortable with and who she feels is most fit to provide her the care she needs. The end.

Of course, I lived in South Asia for quite a long while and I have very strong feelings regarding the culture and how it treats women. This video and what he’s driving at is much more complicated because of the context. Generally though, I’m particularly of the mindset that men need to stfu on women issues, especially in South Asia.

And obviously, considering the community you’re posting in, a man’s religious based opinion on anything regarding a woman is quite irrelevant and almost certainly tainted. If a woman is with a man who is imposing rules on her because of his religion, then I’m of the opinion she shouldn’t be with that man. I mean, since we’re talking opinions and all… and this is an atheist community.

I find insecure husbands to be unimpressive in general and cultures that encourage their insecurity to be tragically patriarchal.

Short answer: Stop whining and get the fuck over it.
