Though I’d bet there’s at least one polycule out there with a registered Democrat woman and a bi dude with a grindr acct so, while homophobic it’s also likely incorrect.
I dont see it as making fun of gay people, it’s highlighting the hypocrisy that amongst the right, these men can’t be happy about themselves being gay, and they must have beards to be accepted.
Or they fear being ostracized from their family and friends for being themselves, but fuck them since they’re afraid to come out and lose everyone they know or even be assaulted, right?
Rationalize it however you need to (lord knows those closeted republican gays do hahaha, yeah?) but tbh “haha gays” is still not the best punchline ever. Honestly at best it’s hack. Got any good “haha trump look liek cheto” material on deck?
I mean, if you’re making fun of closeted repressed gay people who are republicans, you’re still making fun of closeted repressed gay people. And the punchline wasn’t “haha republican,” it was “haha gay.”
I understand the rationalization that it’s ok to make fun of them for being gay because they’re assholes, but it’s still making fun of them for being gay.
It’s not homophobic. Nothing about this comment is critical of gay people. It is critical of conservatism making people live closeted lives where they have to marry people of the opposite sex all while actually desiring and secretly having gay relationships on the side instead of just being themselves. And they do that all while being hypocrites that vote and/or advocate against the rights of gay people and other marginalized groups.
Critical or not “gay” isn’t necessarily the best punchline, it still insinuates there’s something to mock about gayness, though I suppose your caveat is “only if it’s closeted and repressed.” They’re still just as oppressed if not more than say someone who is openly gay and accepted by their family, and mocking them likely isn’t going to convince them to come out, so idk if “it’s ok because they’re hypocrites” is actually the case. It seems to me these people are just as vulnerable as the rest of the gay population, repression and all, and might need more help because of all that.
But y’know don’t let that spoil your good time, they probably have small wieners and are fat and gay and bald ha ha ha.
So A) fuck off with your putting words in my mouth at the end there. B) just because they are victims does not mean that they aren’t also victimizers. That’s the case more often than is ever comfortable to realize. These are modern day, Trump supporting Republicans. They hate queer people even if they are gay themselves. They vote against their interests. They may even welcome making their own sexual activies illegal or worse. They do not get my sympathy. Fuck them.
A) I didn’t, it was a joke about how it’s cool to be homophobic and body shame depending on the circumstances. A disdainful one as, like I probably have adequately demonstrated, I disagree with that all too common premise. You are only perpetuating the homophobic part though, to be fair.
B) “so yeah again I say ‘haha gays’ is fine because they’re repressed enough to be dicks.”
It’a got a real honophobic bent when you consider most of the people making these jokes are not queer folk, and doubly so when so many people fall over themselves to defend these jokes
would you tell a gay guy you don’t know something like oh yeh hitler would have loved grindr? How about oh yeah trumps a (slur of your choice), look how camp he is, i bet he sucks off men in the oval office, thats why he’s building a ball room, he loves balls?
Again, you seem to be missing the point. No one is equating evil people with being gay or gueerness in general. The joke is not “they are republican men, therefore they are gay,” like you seem to be implying. The joke is that many pompous holier-than-thou gay-bashing conservative women ironically have husbands that are not attracted to them and cheat on them as a result of their conservatism.
That’s because conservativism mandates people be their narrow definition of “normal”. People that don’t fit that definition then are made to be closeted about their “abnormalities” or express them in secret. Necessarily, that means many conservative gay men have conservative wives that they aren’t attracted to. That part is sad for people forced to live under such circumstances. But for many, this is self imposed. And in that case, the irony of being bitten by their own shitty ideals, particularly while trying to brag about those ideals and put down others, is funny.
Haha gays amirite?

Exactly I like gays, I don’t like self hating gays who try to hurt others.
Or they fear being ostracized from their family and friends for being themselves, but fuck them since they’re afraid to come out and lose everyone they know or even be assaulted, right?

Maybe they shouldn’t perpetuate prosecution of gay people? No one was laughing at gay people, get that chip off your shoulder
I envy the world you live in where everything is so easy as to “just not bro.”
“Just leave the cult bro fuck your family and everything you’ve ever known who cares if the members assault or kill you just be yourself™”
Hop on grindr, find a few, and tell them to quit being cowards. Maybe you’ll help.
No one said it was easy, take a deep breath, were not fighting you for you, were not making fun of gay people.
I mean, if you’re making fun of closeted repressed gay people who are republicans, you’re still making fun of closeted repressed gay people. And the punchline wasn’t “haha republican,” it was “haha gay.”

We aren’t making fun of them.
Sure seems like it.

For being gay? No. For being hypocritical hateful dicks? Yes. Fuck them.
Sure whatever you need to rationalize it.
Eat me.

literally dripping with contempt for queers
