• car traffic was constant
• they had just gone down to one car lane to support a bus lane and bicycle lane - stopping in the car lane would have been out in the middle of everything and a much bigger obstruction I would have been standing in the bus lane to change my tire rather than the sidewalk
• because of how busy, Nobody was going to be zooming by. cyclists were not at risk
