Dear Parents and Guardians,
In light of the recent tragedy, Oklahoma schools will join together to honor the memory of Charlie Kirk who engaged high school and college students to talk about American exceptionalism, Christianity’s role in society and our country’s history, as well as conservative values. He challenged students to think for themselves, value free speech, and engage in meaningful debate.
Tomorrow at 12:00 p.m., September 16th, our schools will hold a moment of silence to reflect on his legacy. We invite parents, families, and Oklahomans everywhere to join us from wherever you are and unite in remembrance.
This moment is about coming together to honor a man who believed in empowering the next generation with courage and conviction.
Thank you for standing with us.
Superintendent Ryan Walters
THIS SHIT PISS ME OFF THAT I WANTED TO RESPOND. INSTEAD I JUST BLOCKED THEM.
Most schools have said they can’t/won’t do it, at least in Tulsa and the surrounding areas. With a big public letter. Thankfully.
Give your kid/s a day off school in protest. Much better than allowing any exposure to far right indoctrination.
That’s a great idea. Actually they want it at noon and they go to lunch at 11. And rhey have off campus lunch. He can just come on then. We don’t live far from the school either.
Personally I like that idea the best. The OP is heated, but when they calm down, an email back to let the school know why as well. I mean it likely won’t change their mind, but making your point and including some reliable sources, maybe they’ll think about it. Either outcome, at least you’re kid isn’t giving this guy a moment of silence and believing that nonsense about him.
There is a really big public charter school out here in AZ called American Leadership Academy. They sent this to all the parents today:
Dear parents, families, and staff of American Leadership Academy,
The tragic events of this week remind us of the true cost of liberty and call us to reflect on who we are as individuals, as a community, and as a nation.
American Leadership Academy was founded on the principles of faith, family, and the enduring virtues upon which our great nation was built, following in the tradition of our Founding Fathers. At the heart of these virtues is freedom.
This week, we mourn the loss of a great American, a man who embodied many of the same principles we hold dear. Charlie Kirk challenged us all to do more and to be more: to reject apathy and indifference, to stand boldly for what we believe, and to live with conviction.
Many have asked, “What can I do?” We have chosen a simple yet meaningful gesture. We are offering “Freedom” shirts made in the USA, which are available for students and families to purchase online, along with a limited supply available for purchase on campus. These shirts are approved for students to wear on Fridays as a visible reminder of the values we cherish and our shared commitment to Learn, Lead, and Change the World - just as Charlie did. All profits will go directly to a qualified organization selected by the Kirk family.
With gratitude and resolve,
Glenn Way
FounderI feel your infuriation.
Wow, even worse. Selling you crap. Shameless!
I’d be showing up with a loudspeaker blaring his most vile comments. Don’t let them hide under “moment of silence” bullshit.
Wish I could but can’t afford to be fired from my job and not getting another due to Maga around here.
You should reply to the effect that it is not appropriate to celebrate hate, and what about the school shooting that happened on the same day?
Please blast some music during the moment of silence
Told my son to just talk the whole time. Fuck our superintendent. I always hated him knew he was and is a bad person, but this is just a new low.
