True. I wasn’t suggesting they don’t exist. I’ve just seen lots of users respond to any contradiction or criticism by immediately accusing the other person of being a bot or troll or whatever. Like an international plot to suppress their ideas is the only possible explanation for disagreement.
Criticism is one thing and it can end with an interesting discussion, but that’s not what’s going on here.
What usually happens is that someone with extreme views on Russia (or China) “teaches you the truth” (that may include the denial of widely accepted historical facts) and “fuck you brainwashed slave of capitalism” if you disagree. Alternatives to the teaching are plain insult and mockery. I even found mods banning posts or users in some communities.
I had to block a long list of people, whole instances, and some communities before Lemmy could become acceptable.
Tale as old as the Internet. Back when Slashdot was relevant, someone accused me of being a telecom industry plant because I said the IPv6 rollout was being fucked up. Apparently on the basis that ISPs were set to make buckets of money by charging for IPv4 addresses. When I mentioned the conversation to a netadmin friend of mine, he thought the idea was stupid as fuck. Because it is.
Over 20 years later, Google is just about to hit 50% IPv6 traffic. I don’t consider that a success.
To be fair there are a lot of Russian trolls.

Had to take a double-take here since you have just posted that from lemmy.ml
What’s wrong with that?
