So you need two of them, one in use, and one charging in the garden. Unless you enjoy using your computer in the sun for some reason.

Solar calculators can run off ambient lighting and BLE is very efficient so you’ll get months of runtime from a few hours in the sun, and most people leave their house (or refrain from using the PC in the daytime) at least that much.

I wonder if the “battery lasts 10 years” claim refers to a single charge or its chemical lifetime, either is possible with BLE and the form factor.

Not really. I have a logitech mini pop keys bluetooth keyboard, and it has a year-long battery life with 2 AAA’s. The Pro ones with key backlights have week-long battery life.

      This is easily doable.

I have a solar-powered phone battery, but it charges very slowly. I wonder if this would charge fast enough to keep up with the use.

Pretty neat. Perfect for a HTPC in a sunny main lounge. It charges during the day while you’re at work, and you just never worry about it. I have to swap the AAA batteries on mine every few weeks. It’s barely a bother but still better if I didn’t have to.
