The Czech Republic seems to befull of these single wagon rail buses 👍
This one spotted standing in Karlovy Vary.
Only super tangentially related but does anyone else find it super unnecessary for regional trains to have 1st and 2nd class? I get it for long distance, especially if your employer pays for first class to ensure you can work on the ride. But what’s the point if you’re only on that train for, like, 5-60 minutes? 1st class is always super empty on regional trains too, so inefficient.
Good point. You think that’s what the 2 stands for? That would mean there’s separate wagons with 1st class, I guess. Or maybe used to be. Rarely deployed.
Ah, sorry I assumed! That’s what it stands for in Switzerland, Austria and Germany at least. Though to be fair, out of those, Switzerland is the only one where I’ve seen this on a regional train.
I like them but fortunately didn’t see them in a while. I say fortunately because they get slowly replaced not like the insane plan in Hungary to “modernize” them.
Also they aren’t suited for the place where I live so few lines are still served with the old DB carriages other have the new RegioPanther trains.
Replaced with what? They way I see it is they’re a light option for existing rail tracks. So whatever they’re replaced with, it needs to run on standard train tracks?
And how are they not suited for where you live? Too small? They can be chained afaik.
I don’t know the name of the trains that are meant to replace those 70’s trains. But there are options, truth is that it is just aging and is increasingly hard to maintain them in decent condition (most recent modernization was ~2015). At least here it will be replaced eventually for more modern ones, I know it is blast from past but it just doesn’t matter for regular commuter.
Yes too small, too slow and on electrified tracks irrelevant. They are meant for small regional lines, not for suburban transport. It is like running trams as EC trains.
They are meant for small regional lines
That’s precisely where I keep seeing them!
Had to look at wiki about the modernization of 810.
And I wasn’t entirely correct the true modernization was performed 2005-2012 basically rebuild to be the yellow RegiNova train.
Last “modernization” 2020-2024 was pretty much stopgap before they can get some new trains. Fitted new motor so AC can be fitted and new interior.
