Only super tangentially related but does anyone else find it super unnecessary for regional trains to have 1st and 2nd class? I get it for long distance, especially if your employer pays for first class to ensure you can work on the ride. But what’s the point if you’re only on that train for, like, 5-60 minutes? 1st class is always super empty on regional trains too, so inefficient.
Good point. You think that’s what the 2 stands for? That would mean there’s separate wagons with 1st class, I guess. Or maybe used to be. Rarely deployed.
Ah, sorry I assumed! That’s what it stands for in Switzerland, Austria and Germany at least. Though to be fair, out of those, Switzerland is the only one where I’ve seen this on a regional train.
