Where I live (Slovakia) the line I use to get to school has been here since 1880ish. SINCE 1907 it rides 120km/h it hasn’t sped up for 118 years LOL.
Yes, I agree, that’s exactly why I think we should focus more on building safe infrastructure, because if it isn’t safe enough to ride without a helmet it never will become used as mass method of transportation.
In the Netherlands 96% of the people don’t use helmets while their injuries are very low. It’s about the infrastructure mentality. Like you wouldn’t take a helmet for walking? It’s the same for them.
Or we could just build trains and other alternatives to cars, which would end up cheaper, faster, safer, environmentally friendly, …but we have big oil.
