This literally happened to my great grandfather in the late 1920s. He bought a car, got distracted by the sight of a pretty lady, and drove into a swamp. He was yelling “whoa! whoa!” and pulling back on the steering wheel while the car went off the road. That is what he had done his whole life to stop a horse drawn buggy in an emergency. He told my grandfather, who was riding with him at the time, that he could have the car if he could get it out of the swamp. He said he was going back to his horse and buggy because a horse wouldn’t have run off the road into a swamp no matter what he looked at. He continued to use a horse and buggy for all of his transportation needs until he died in the mid 1960s. #FuckCars

I hate cars and Mel Gibson but I love the Mad Max franchise. Mad Max (1979) Society is on the verge of collapse, so the presence of gasoline is still reasonable. The Road Warrior (1981) Society has collapsed but a group of civilized people have held onto an oil well with a small refinery. Beyond Thunderdome (1985) No one is driving. Max’s car is mostly a status symbol. Barter Town runs on methane. Furiosa (2024) and Fury Road (2015) Warlords have formed an economy of slave labor based on control of bullets, sustenance and fuel. Throughout it all, Max struggles with PTSD induced psychosis and each time he has a chance to regain his humanity, he rejects the opportunity and wanders off into the wasteland alone. Once upon a time there was global trade in whale oil. It was used for lighting, cooking, heating and people were so sure it would never run out because the ocean was so big. Then several species were hunted to extinction and many other species became endangered and trade in whale oil had to stop. Petroleum is a finite resource. Corporate controlled governments are fighting wars over oil right now because it’s almost gone. Between 5 and 8 years of oil left. America has spent a century destroying public transportation and enslaving the population to the automotive and fossil fuel industries. They can’t switch to renewable energy fast enough. Without fossil fuel for their cars Americans will be finished.

FreeTube is a good replacement for YouTube on PC and NewPipe is good on Android phones.

I use F-Droid and Aurora Store on my phone and replaced the Google apps, that came preloaded on the phone, with FOSS apps. NewPipe on my phone and FreeTube on my PC to replace YouTube. I don’t use Gmail. My Google account is on a Proton account. After I am sure I have all my desired apps switched over to email sign in, I will delete the Google account. I am also switching my Proton mail for Tuta mail. Proton is on the wrong side. I also dumped Microsoft over a year ago. I have been on Linux since then. I have avoided FaceBook for over a decade and never maintained a Twitter account.
