I think it’s the “3rd term” bit specifically that is anti-USian, directly going against the two term limit written in the… constitution (?)

Still use my 5MX a couple of times a year… one of the most amazing pieces of technology I’ve ever owned.

I’m sure for some (sad and backwards) people it is a racially motivated position - but for many others I think it has more to do with cultural and geographical proximity.

I like the way your school works where you can chant along if you want - I remember having to lip-sync the “Lord’s prayer” (daily bread speech) as a kid so as not to get a whooping from a zealot in the staff room. Crazy times.

Do USian school children still talk to that bit of fabric every morning - or is that a myth? From an outsider’s perspective I always put the US just below, uh, post-Weimar republic Germany in the excessive flag club chart placings. Always seemed excessively jingoistic.

Humans be allowed in, on and across roads in many countries. Jay walking is the most insane non-crime I’ve ever heard of. I still don’t really believe it exists…

So, yeah, car centric cities are both terrible and insane - but not every city in the world is that way; thankfully.

Punishment, rehabilitation and removing someone from public life due to the danger they represent are the three most common reasons to imprison where I live.

The end products would be: society getting its “pound of flesh”, a better educated and matured person upon release and the protecting of the public from dangerous individuals.

(In practice though, most of our prisons are just universities of crime)

I’ve never encountered “Engr” before and don’t know where it comes from but “Eur Ing” is for Engineers in the European Federation of National Engineering Associations. You can have this title on a UK passport - well, until very recently you could. May have changed.

It’s fine if you drop the letter “h” when you speak - like I do. It then becomes “an ‘istoric” and sounds correct.

I’ve mentioned this here before but in the UK “an historic” is written because we are slowly dropping the letter “h” at the front of words from pronunciation. UK people often say “an ‘istoric” so it kinda makes sense… but looks clumsy.
