  • The trucks are very exspensive, ones like in this pic are in the millions. Stuff in this range of price is generally repaired for a long time and kept in service for decades and is built more like industrial equipment. There isnt much on the truck that cannot be replaced. They are also suprisingly strong. This one is probably rated to carry about 80 tons, which means the truck probably weighs atleast as much. So you are looking at 160k ibs before being loaded and over a quarter million pounds when loaded. Every part of that truck has to exceed the shock forces of that at several gs so you can imagine how much of a bitch it is to take off a skid plate or something. You better eat you wheeties. Thats why replacing them is more of a long term process. We have a bunch of 40 ton and some heavier rock trucks like this. We replace them about every 10-20 years but may keep them longer if they are in decent shape. There is no hard limit on their lifespan and generally newer equipment is worse and weaker because of emmisions and saftey equipment. These trucks are more like mining trucks. They usually work in big mines since you have to take the truck apart to transport them on highways or move them on rail. They are not usually worth hauling for smaller jobs because you have to find someone who is willing to assemble and disassemble them.

Many pieces of equipment half this size will have engine replacments, and other major systems replaced in its lifetime. Sometimes axles, transmissions, even cabs and stuff. Companies usually keep some as spares when they get severly damaged to use as parts. This one is probably not damaged as bad as it looks unless they left the engine running after it flipped. The bed is thick steel.

  • Some people just arent cut out for certain jobs. There is no good reason to ever flip that truck that way. Where i work at the only thing that will really get you fired on the spot is doing something really dumb like this, or putting someone else in an unsafe position. Also a few hundred grand is the low end. If the driver is really dumb and xoesnt cut the engine off as soon as he gets done rolling, he will ruin the entire engine which will cost close to a million just for the engine alone.

  • Flipping it back over will be extreamly difficult, probably will require several excavators. Then they will have to inspect the engine, to see if its damaged. If it needs parts, it could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair. The truck may need parts or welding as well. They will likely fire the driver who flipped it and replace him with someone. You can learn fairly quick.

  • Its because of two things. One is that people hog the passing lane or try to pass slowly so it takes them a few minutes to overtake a few cars, and also because people drive at different speeds. Some people drive at the speed that feels comfortable, others drive the state imposed speed limit. This creates pockets of dense traffic, and then people try to pass, but there is always the person who tries to pass as slow as possible because they are going a few mph over the speed limit.

Its really just a bad combination of laws, and drivers who are terrified of breaking the law, and people who dont know how to drive correctly in a way to reduce traffic. Also many people are just never consider that others also need to use the roads. They don’t care about traffic. Some people also have health issues, like blindness, or mental handicaps, which means driving at interstate speeds is about all they can muster.

  • Its a horrible law, although there is no punishment, it just normalizes the idea of persecuting and shaming innocent people. The laws are not good when you use them to micromanage your neighbors lives. Laws are supposed to be for taking away the need for violence from society and putting judgment into a transparent and safe and strict process. All this type of stuff just gives the state more power to harm people it doesnt like who are doing nothing actually wrong. Like all laws this will only be selectivly enforced against people the powerful dont like. The reason countries really start to become bad is when you get one group of idiots in power who think they know everything, who think it their role to mold humanity into their idea of right and wrong. People lose their motivation, their creativity, their will to build things, because their life becomes a benign hell of just being a host for elitest parasites. It starts with elitest assholes telling you how you are allowed to spend your free time, and what types of haircuts are acceptable, and what types of books you are allowed to read, mass zurveliience, propganda on every type of media you consume. Silencing disidents. It ends with a society where nobody cares about anything. Nobody wants to work. There isnt anything to buy anyways. Creativity at first and then the good genes in the population just die out. The human race is truely fucked. The greatest filter we have is our complete inability to not abuse innocent people. So many humans just want to control each other. Humans are obsessed with controling each other. Nothing great was ever created by control, only by the florishing of the human spirit and liberty, allowing people to be creative and weird and happy. History so clearly shows this. Religous societies and authoritarian societies are always complete shitholes even for the ones who benifit, like the racialy pure male normative class. The nicest societies are the ones who out liberty above all else. The richest person in a bad country is worse off then the poorest person in a nice country. Money doesnt buy happiness. Money cannot buy you love, not real love, just a simulation of it. Money cannot protect your kids. Money does not give your life meaning. Money usually just ruins you even more then you already were and then you jave to lie and xeluse yourself into thinking you deserve it, to avoid cognitive disonance with the only people who can tolorate you. Too bad people are too dumb to realize this now. People who trade liberty for temporary security, people who trade liberty so they can avoid actually facing any real issues in society, people who trade liberty so they can be comcortable and growntheir 401k, are the worst types of people.

  • I have a similar idea for one day when we can actually use the government for good again. We should build a low bandwidth nationwide digital radio network. Not owned by corporations but by the people. Include things like rtk capability by default. The telecomms and isps will try to fight this with billions of inflation dollars, but if we do manage to get this in, everyone could have access to the internet at low speeds without paying, and it would be relativly easy to maintain. An open standard that would allow many cool technologies like robotics that are much safer and precise.

Potential aplications are, nonsibscription medical devices, realtime rtk everywhere, a huge boon for construction with a standard coordinate system. Documenting things like underground cables and pipes easily. Property lines. Self driving cars that can communicate with each other and work together. Access to the internet and communications for the poor. Cheap animal tracking collars. Drones that can fly across the country without needing a data plan. So many things. It would be an efficency gain accross the entire economy.

  • Well im sure that’s true for most people who just browse the web and stuff, but I do many complex things with my PC. Double clicking an installer is just always easier to install software. That was the first big mistake of linux tbh. Not having a standard gui type way to install 3rd party software. App stores are cool, dont get me wrong, but its not a replacement for just double clicking a downloaded file that interacts with a standard set of tools on your PC. I know there are reasons for this, linux is only a kernel and what not. I have been using windows since idk 95 i think when i was like 6 years old. It is definitly way easier to do just about anything. That is because windows was designed to be as simple and cross compatible as possible. Xp and 7 were the best versions of windows unless you were too dumb to avoid getting malware or something. For whatever reason, most people were too dumb to avoid getting maleware because they hard no artistic sense. I could always detect the quality of the mind which made a website, and i knew bad artists were the ones who likely had bad morals, and had malware. Also personality. It was simple for me to avoid malware and i never did get it, maybe twice over like 20 years.

Windows died and so i started to use linux a few years ago. The hardest thing i ever had to do in windows was probably link libraries in C++, almost everything in linux is that hard. The people who make linux just will never understand that the average user will never want to spend hundreds of hours a year maintaining their system. 90% of people cannot even understand if a simple logical statement is true or not. Half of them can barely read. Kid these days dont even know how to use something thats not a touch screen, older people over 60% of them cant send an email without help, and these people are supposed to download xrandr for their linux machine and create a custom startup script in system d, to make their tv display correctly? Madness. I feel like i may have walked into a cult. If you guys are like Linux devs, that is extreamly cool fr, atleast to me, but you are delusional if you think linux is easier to use then windows. It has come a long way. Bazzite is the first distro that i feel comfortable recomending to normies, and i recomend it to many people who are trying to escape the trashpile that is modern windows. Learning liinux has been difficult though, maybe because i dont have tons of free time and energy anymore like when i was younger. It is coming a long way however thxs to lord gaben and his push to make linux more mainstream, so the personal PC market doesnt die completly with whatever the hell microsoft and apple are doing these days, probably trying to micromanage their users, e force moral sogma, and use nudge theory on them because the people who run most companies in America are actually dumb incels at this point.
