The 2001 game Arcanum (a steam punk fanatsy hybrid) had that perspective. You had a world based in late Victorian industrialization and you had elves and dwarves and stuff… but those same dwarves and elves had VERY different views on technology. This is because they live for centuries while humans just decades. They make it clear that the two longer living races often approach technology (elves hate it btw, dwarves like it but are cautious) with caution specifically because they can see the effects of their shit from a hundred years from now while humans simply cannot.

But tech oligarchs want to destroy that, too. Basically by having their cars require a connection and monitor your every movement within the car and where you are going and when. They also are obsessed with self-driving cars because they then would have more control over your movements.

In short there will BE no plus side to having a car in the very near future. They are enshittifying everything.

I worked in tech support for several years last decade… and the amount of people who tell me ‘my Facebook isn’t working’ to mean their internet connection is bust is insane. And they aren’t getting any smarter. Last time I worked tech support was in 2021 and I got fired when I nearly lost my shit with an American client who demanded to know why he couldn’t enter a company store without a mask.

Exactly. Local connection. Why the fuck does it need access to some server somewhere? I am sorry… but if they have updates for their shit available they need different ways of making it available.

Also why the fuck does the company need audio recordings from your home? That is literally spy shit. And why does it need the layout? Even if they were doing it purely to improve their products and make them be able to work around confusing layouts and obstacles then that shit needs your full knowledge and consent… and you can withdraw consent at any time for any reason.

Gaming is not the issue for me. All my games work fine. The problem is using some cheats that I did for some games like cyberpunk 2077. I cannot get PINCE or cheat engine to work on it.

Same here. I actually had windows 11 for a bit… but not any more. I went linux and never looked back.

I use discord via browser on my Linux.

The only thing my bed has that my previous beds didn’t was a removable charging outlet with USBs and stuff. That’s it. That requires only electricity and is literally something that could have existed last century with no problem.
