Edit: got the same one again, by the same account.
Edit: and i got a third one. Blocked the account now.
What strikes me as weird is that they’ll send me multiple of the same message in quick succession. This one is weird. Wonder if Whang! would want to tackle this one.
What is the point of this?
What’s the point of sharing urls that no one can click on?
Its to bypass chat filters, but yeah.
Obviously that’s why it’s posted as an image, but what is the point of spamming everyone with links they can’t click?
Remember, they’re targeting a specific demographic.
People who are so horny enough about a random girl online that they’re willing to type out long URLs off the images without thinking about what they’re doing.
@null_dot @cows_are_underrated
I remember a screenshot with some 20 different Nicole, written in dark gray with black background.
I ended up using google lens to OCR
The urls aren’t important, it’s the name, photo and location he is spamming. He wants this girl to be harassed.
I feel so bad for this girl. Nobody who becomes a meme wanted to become a meme, but at least most of them got 15 minutes of fame and are largely ignored. Imagine if the thing you were best known for was being the face of a social media spamming campaign.
The “It ain’t much but it’s honest work” guy turned out to be okay with it. Apparently he did a lot of work with agricultural soil science and contributed greatly to humanity, so…it might be much but I think it genuinely is honest work.
That’s what I’m saying. Dave Brandt didn’t pose for that photo expecting to become famous. If you recognize him walking down the street, your reaction is going to be “hey I recognize him! That’s the ‘honest work’ guy!” But if you recognize Nicole walking on the street, your reaction is going to be “oh fuck her”
I don’t mean you specifically, I mean you in a general sense
…is it working, though? Like I think there’s a few thousand of us who now associate that face with “The Fediverse Chick” and joke about her being “our” girlfriend; this joke being more at the expense of the concept of pig butchering scams than anything else. I don’t think most of us actually hold it against the girl in the photos, because there are numerous ways those could be stolen or sampled from somewhere else.
Whatever the scam is, do we have documentation of anyone falling for it?
She keeps ghosting me. I’ve replied to her everytime but then crickets 🙄
I don’t get it. I’ve gotten two of these in two days. I don’t understand the end goal. I keep blocking them but I guess it’s just different accounts.
Yep I got one too
