Community for CRPG (Computer RPGs) and other RPG discussions. Focus is on CRPGs, but discussion around JPRGs, ARPGs and hybrid games with RPG components is also welcome. New mainline releases, gems in the rough indie releases, retrospectives, mods, RPG video essays and more. You get the idea.
The comm has been rebooted 6 months ago and we have solid engagement, but your posts, comments and votes are always welcome!

“This community does not exist” is what I’m getting. I can only find [email protected]
Should work: https://lemmy.zip/c/[email protected]
No, sorry, same result. Also when searching for it, I only find the other one. Wasn’t lemmy.zip closed or something?
Maybe it’s blocked by Lemmy.ml ?
.ml banned the mod
Classic!
That’s why you don’t use ML.
This explains that
Also make sure to click on the first part of the link (before the /c/), for some reason clicking the second part will still try to fetch it on your instance rather than the one I linked
Thanks for sharing! That’s a sub from me!
I was like:
Sweet! Another RPG com to sub to!
Then I opened the sidebar and was like:
Sweet! I’m already subscribed!
Ha! :)

Oh, “Computer RPGs”. Before loading the community and seeing the title I assumed that was “Chinese RPG” such as the ones by Hoyoverse, etc. You might want to spell that out in the description.
Nah, CRPG as in classical RPGs, the Baldurs Gates and Pillars of Eternities. I have never seen CRPG standing for Chinese RPG. But spelling it out at least once would help solve that problem, yes.
To be honest, I’ve never heard CRPGs refer to anything other than computer RPGs. Usually gatcha games are referred to as such even by players who play them.
But I’ve made some edits for clarity. Cheers!
Ah - I just hadn’t heard that term before and had to guess what it meant. Thanks!
I have never heard of anyone using CRPG to refer to Chinese RPG, personally. In fact, are the Hoyoverse even RPGs in the first place?
I don’t see why not, they have leveling, battle, and quest mechanics similar to JRPGs - but playable character acquisition is mostly via gacha instead of from the plot. Honkai: Star Rail is even turn-based.
An arguement can be made that gacha disqualifies it from being an RPG.
Not saying one must agree or disagree, just outlining the logical thinking on this.
I would disagree, but not strongly, since I can sorta see it too - there’s ludonarrative dissonance with the PCs only affecting combat and minor exploration skills while the plot mostly happens to an NPC (the main character) and their NPC friends and enemies, some of which look and sound exactly like the PCs.
That said, I’m still making decisions and solving puzzles and advancing the plot, leveling up and farming stuff, etc.
