Republicans are the party of violence, oppression, terrorism, murder, torture, and more. The “left is violent and mentally ill” rhetoric is an extension of the eighth feature of Ur-Fascism, according to Umberto Eco.
The followers must feel humiliated by the ostentatious wealth and force of their enemies. … Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak.
So do you think the shooter was a leftist or conservative? What about the Trump shooter? To say political violence is just happening on one side is out of touch with reality.
I certainly wouldn’t claim that political violence only happens on one side, but to me it’s clear how we got here. It was the right who celebrated minorities being murdered by the police. It was the right who attempted a violent coup and then defended and ultimately celebrated the pardons of the people who planned and executed said coup. The right voted for a man who spreads hate and incites violence every time he opens his mouth three times. They are responsible for this dangerous and violent reality we live in now. By pardoning domestic terrorists, it sends a message that the right supports using violence to obtain their political goals.
I think there’s a way to sum it all up. The right uses violence because it’s embedded in their ideas of the world. The left sees violence as a means to an end. Even the most bloodthirsty anti-capitalist would be happy if they could set it aside and live peaceably. If there is no fight to be had, then a conservative will have to make one or else someone might notice they have no other ideas.
