I’m not really sure why.

Maybe, hanging out at one of the choke points of the house ensures he’ll get some interaction. He looks like an old kitty, maybe he needs some comforting.

She is an old cat - I got her as a kitten about sixteen years ago. I’ve got three cats and she’s the shyest - she’ll run away from any social interaction other than with me. That door is exactly across the hallway from where I sleep, though, so maybe you’re right about that! I did make sure to give her scritches right after taking this picture.

I don’t know your cat, but I know cats very well (in general)

Is it keeping it’s head down like that? It seems to be in pain. Not to alarm you, but maybe look into it.

Edit: didn’t mean to reply to this comment. I’m assuming OP will see this regardless.

Thank you for the concern. She was asleep in this picture; I’m pretty sure she’s not in pain as she holds herself normally otherwise. However, I will keep an eye on her to see if she looks uncomfortable.

Yes, if she continues to display unusual behavior (especially while pressing top of head to ground, nose down) check her out, or take her to the vet for a checkup.

I had a very old cat of whom I loved much display symptoms similar to this, I took him to the vet and it was pancreatic cancer. Within weeks of diagnosis, he was in too much pain to do anything other than be euthanized. It was terrible, especially as I chose to have him on my lap during the process (which I do not regret, but it fucked me up). His behavior had been odd for a while before I took him in. Odd behavior means a lot with older cats. I wish I could’ve eased his pain or at least have known he was going. Don’t let that happen, if you love the animal; you don’t want to wonder if you could’ve done more.

My dog sadly died under similar circumstances recently. For a few days prior to his death, I thought he was just being odd and disobedient, but he was always an odd, disobedient dog so I just put it down to his mood; then one day I took a nap and woke up to him gone.

Don’t worry - I do love this cat, but love or not, I don’t want any animal to suffer. I’m pretty sure she’s just old and tired and doesn’t like my other two cats (the spot where she was sleeping is not frequented by them). However, in case she’s unwell, I’ll watch out for her. Thank you for the warning.

I’m not happy to hear you’ve already experienced such a loss, however I am thankful to not unnecessarily alarm you. Sorry for your loss :( Animal companions are incredibly special.

Speaking of other cats, I believe part of my homeboi’s eventual demise was the introduction (I was adopted) of a new cat. Talk about stressful for all parties involved.

I was not adopted, but my sister and son/nephew were. I can’t imagine the stresses of being adopted, maybe especially when you’re old enough to understand what’s happening, but my sister always raised one interesting point: if you were adopted, you were chosen!

I appreciate the sentiment of your story (I’ve heard similar and am touched), but I meant I was adopted by the cat (👁 ͜ʖ👁)

My cats do this sometimes. Nothing to be concerned about as far as I’m aware. My cats are happy and healthy!
